Set default page on Linux plesk using .htaccess

Applies to :

Requirements

To perform this task, you need to have :

  • Knowledge in accessing the server via SSH or FTP.
  • IP address or server hostname.
  • Your server SSH/FTP username and password.

Instructions

You can simply create a file named “.htaccess” in the folder where you want to have a Directory Index rule to take effect. In a shared hosting plan, there is a possibility that you will not able to create “.htaccess” because you are not allowed to upload or create a filename begin with “.” (dot). However, our support will be able to help you to rename the file later.

Copy and paste following line in .htaccess file :

Directory Index default.html index.html index.cgi index.php

Please note that the Apache server will look for the list files, from left to right. In the above example, the Apache server will first look for “default.html” to load. If “default.html” cannot be found, it looks for “index.html” next. If “index.html” cannot be found, it looks for “index.cgi” next, and so on.

SSL Certificate warning when visiting Plesk login page

Applies to :

Overview

When you visit Plesk control panel via HTTPS (i.e.. 123.100.254.4:8443 ), your web browser will show-up with a warning message saying that it can’t verify the SSL cert.

The message may vary, depending on the browser. For instance in Firefox it will say “This Connection is Untrusted” like picture below :

It can be safely disregarded, the browser is showing up with that warning as it’s not able to recognize self-signed cert (web browser can only recognize those SSL cert that you purchase from CA like Verisign, Geotrust and etc.). If you see the certificate error then there should be nothing to worry because the connection still encrypted. It is the fact that Parallels (formerly known as SWsoft) is not a trusted signing authority. Parallels (the makers of Plesk control panel) self-signs the SSL certificates, but because they are not a trusted signing authority, certificate errors are produced.

If you are using Firefox, kindly follow the step below :

  1. Click “I Understand the Risks“.
  2. Click “Add Exception” button, then a new window will appear.
  3. Click Get Certificate and follow by clicking “Confirm Security Exception“.

After you finished with the above steps, you should be able to see the login page of Plesk control panel.
