MySQL and PHP upgrade on cPanel are very simple process, here is a list of steps that needs to be taken to upgrade these two components:

1. Login to your WHM as root;

2. Go to WHM >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings, scroll down to “MySQL” section, switch radio button to “5.0” and click “Save” at the bottom of the screen;

3. For this to take effect, open root level ssh session to your server and run the “/scripts/mysqlup” command, wait until installation will be completed;

4. Login to WHM as root;

5. Go to WHM >> Main >> Software >> Apache Update

6. Click on the “Load Previous Config” button (if exists);

7. Select required PHP version and PHP options that your applications may need;

8. Click “Start build” button at the bottom of the screen and wait 15-30 minutes.(depend on the connection as well)

For MySQL upgrade, you may also need to run /scripts/perlinstaller –force Bundle::DBD::mysql.
Please note that updating from a previous version of MySQL® to a later version is not automatically reversable. You should backup your databases if you think you might wish to downgrade in the future.
For php/Mysql upgrade, kindly make sure that your applications are compatible with the latest version before do the upgrading.

An inode is a data structure used to store all the information about the files on your hosting account, which include emails, files, folders and everything you upload, create or store on the server.

The number of inodes indicates the number of files and folders you have. For example, shared and reseller servers only allow 150,000 files per cPanel account. This number is the “Soft Limit”, i.e. you will still be able to upload files once the limit is reached.

As for a hosting account, the limit is currently 250,000.  Although exceeding the limit is in violation of our Terms of Service and can result in possible suspension, shared hosting account holders should not be too worried as most shared hosting accounts inode usage is still way below the limit.

VPS accounts are limited to 1,000,000 inodes. In other words, you will be unable to upload files to your account once the threshold is reached. Dedicated servers however, have no inode limitation. Its total inode usage depends on the file system of the server.

How can I reduce my Inode usage 

To reduce the inodecounts, you only need to delete the files or emails you no longer need. Alternatively, you could also download the emails to your local system.

Where can I check my Inode usage

You may check your inode usage in your cPanel, below is the steps :

1) Login to cPanel with the URL as domainname.com/cpanel

2) Proceed to Home –> Stats and –> File Usage

3) You are therefore able to view the total usage of your Inodes.

Alternatively you may contact our support team to check on your Inode usage.

Lastly, TOS Inode violations also include (however not limited to) continuously publishing and deleting large number of files (i.e. 10,000+) without pre-approval.

Mod_security is currently installed on all shared web hosting servers in an effort to block against attacks against customer websites.

Attacks against your website that mod_security has blocked are logged to the error log file for your account. This log file can be viewed in the hosting control panel.

4) You may follow the below explanation on how to configure the SpamAssassin:

a) required_score : This score is use to rate email content to be a spam email. The default value for the required score is

5. The lower the value, the tighten the security on the email which suspect as spam email. The higher the value, the loosen the security on the spam email. You may also insert decimal value such as “1.222233333” as the score for the spam email.

b) rewrite_header subject : This is use to tag the subject of the email if it is suspect as the spam email. If you do enable the spam box on your email account, then those email which tag as spam email will be move to a spam folder which is located inside your respective email account. If the email is known to be a spam email, then the subject of the email will be include with the string that you insert in this column. For example: You rewrite header subject is call “***SPAM***” then if the spam assassin suspect that email(e.g Subject: Viagra) as a spam email, then it will your subject line will be as “***SPAM***Viagra”.

c) blacklist_from : You can blacklist the email address or the domain from sending email to you. If you would like to blacklist the whole domain from sending email to you, then you can insert the entry as *@domain_name or *.domain.name. If you would like to blacklist the email address only then you may insert the email address in the given entry.

d) score : Assign scores (the number of points for a hit) to a given test. Scores can be positive or negative real numbers or integers. “SYM-BOLIC_TEST_NAME” is the symbolic name used by SpamAssassin for that test; for example, ‘FROM_ENDS_IN_NU’. If only one valid score is listed, then that score is always used for a test. If four valid scores are listed, then the score that is used depends on how SpamAssassin is being used. The first score is used when both Bayes and network tests are disabled. The second score is used when Bayes is disabled, but network tests are enabled. The third score is used when Bayes is enabled and network tests are disabled. The fourth score is used when Bayes is enabled and net-work tests are enabled. Setting a rule’s score to 0 will disable that rule from running.

e) whitelist_from : It is use to whitelist the email which the SpamAssassin consider your client as spam email. The way to whitelist the email address or domain is the same as the blacklist_from.

5) Click ‘Save’ after you have configured the SpamAssassin.
